The Broncos are one year removed from their Super Bowl victory over the Carolina Panthers. Head Coach Gary Kubiak is stepping down, opening up a very enticing job opportunity with plenty of assets, including 40+ Million in cap space.
Denver boasts a stacked defense, with the likes of Von Miller, Aqib Talib, and Chris Harris Jr. Wade Phillips has been a steady hand guiding the Broncos defense. His unit ranked 4th overall this year in yards allowed at 316.1 per game, and 4th in points per game at 18.6. He would be a legitimate option to be retained by the future Head Coach.
On the offensive side of the ball is where things get murky. The next coach has two options at Quarterback in first rounder Paxton Lynch and the incumbent starter Trevor Siemian. The unit vastly underachieved this year, and should probably open things up for an offensive minded Head Coach.
Expectations will be very high in Denver, because this is not a rebuilding team. The Coach who gets hired will be expected to make annual Playoff runs, and will make this a high profile hiring.
Prediction: Kyle Shanahan (OC-Atlanta Falcons)
After finishing the season with a disappointing 4-12 record, the Rams decided to part ways with Jeff Fisher. The Rams need a revamping in a bad way, and they need a coach with the ability to pull the best from all the high draft picks on this team.
Last year, the Rams swung for the fences with a blockbuster trade up for Cal standout Jared Goff. The trade has most analysts skeptical at this point, after watching Goff struggle in the last seven games. Tavon Austin looks like a gadget guy at this point, and will really need to show that he can play Wide Receiver at a reasonable level to avoid the bust label. Greg Robinson, another Fisher era high pick, has struggled mightily and lost his starting Left Tackle gig. Running Back Todd Gurley flashed last season, but failed to top the 1,000 yard mark this year. The offense desperately needs someone to right the ship.
Defensively, the Rams have talented pieces including Pitt star Aaron Donald. They will need to show consistency moving forward, as they had an up and down year.
Prediction: Josh McDaniels (OC- New England Patriots)
San Diego Chargers: Kris Richard (DC-Seattle Seahawks)
The Chargers have a solid core offensively, and with some tweaks they could be right back in business. With the Success Dan Quinn is having currently with the Falcons, Richard should be a hot commodity. He could be the guy to bring San Diego back into contention.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Sean McVay (OC-Washington Redskins)
Jaguars GM Khan will most likely be looking for a coach that can refurbish Quarterback Blake Bortles. McVay could be the man needed to get Bortles back on the right track.
San Francisco 49’ers: Dave Toub (ST-Kansas City Chiefs)
After missing on the Cesario-McDaniels train, the 49ers grab the next best option for their GM and Head Coaching jobs. Chris Ballard is a well respected personnel man, and he could bring ST Coach Dave Toub with him.
